The streaming platform announced today an improv comedy course taught by Poehler, in which the “Parks and Recreation” star workshops skits with a real studio audience and shares her favorite improv principles such as the most famous instruction: “Just say yes.” “The principles of improv have made me more creative, more resilient and more collaborative,” Poehler said in a statement. “My class is designed to help members at work, at home and in their relationships.
Members will find that improv can address the many different ways we approach life and relate to other people — tools that can come in handy as we head into the holiday season.” Featured in the course are Poehler’s 9 principles of improv: Keep saying yes; be a good listener; find your team; finding the game; take up space; can’t be halfway in; don’t bail on your partners; don’t worry about being cool; playing with status. “So many sketches at ‘SNL’ bombed but everybody held onto that Bronco until it rode out of town,” Poehler says in the trailer.
“It is so hard to hold on but man, people do not forget that.” Of course, much of the course will also be dedicated to Poehler’s own career journey, from founding the iconic Upright Citizens Brigade and producing and starring in “Parks and Recreation” to finding her way to the “Saturday Night Live” stage and founding her own production company Paper Kite Productions. Poehler is now one of more than 185 instructors on MasterClass,
