A Place In The Sun viewers were left emotional as the show paid tribute to host Jonnie Irwin after his tagic death, aged 50. Jonnie made his name as a host on Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, which he presented from 2004. He also starred on BBC daytime show Escape to the Country.
Jonnie revealed in November 2022 that he was living with lung cancer, which had spread to his brain. He had been diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2020 and given six months to live by medics, but outlived the prognosis with treatment.
After sharing the diagnosIs with fans in 2022, Jonnie frequently shared updates on his treatment and vowed to spend as much time as possible with his young family. Announcing his sad death on February 2, his family wrote on social media: "It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing.
