The University of Manchester is set to mark the beginning of its 200th anniversary in a dazzling display of lights, poetry, and performances.
Throughout the year, the University will be celebrating its unique history, people, their incredible achievements and the impact they’ve made, in Manchester and around the world, in a year-long programme of events and activities.
This week, on Wednesday, January 17 from 6.24pm (18:24 representing the University's founding year), the university says a pathway of light will 'illuminate iconic places and spaces', bathed in the university's signature colour, purple, and will weave its way through locations on the campus and beyond.

All staff, students, alumni and the local community are invited to wrap up warm for an evening stroll, taking in the lights along the route from Engineering Building A, up Oxford Road to Whitworth Hall (with, perhaps, a few surprises along the way).
Visitors looking to experience the best view of the illuminations are encouraged to make their way to the top of Bridgford Street or Coupland Street, where there will be delicious street food and hot drinks available.
