A couple who unintentionally acquired a dilapidated mansion in Dunoon, instead of the Glasgow city centre flat they had intended to buy have finally received approval for their new home.
Four years ago, Cal Hunter, then 26 years old from Hull, and Claire Segeren, 23 years old from Toronto, embarked on the journey of purchasing a flat in Glasgow as they decided to move in together. Cal was entrusted with placing a bid on a property in the city centre but made a significant error.
During the auction, Cal mistakenly bid on the wrong unit, resulting in their acquisition of Jameswood Villa, an uninhabitable property located in Dunoon on the Cowal peninsula, almost two hours away from Glasgow.
The young couple featured on the BBC One Scotland show Accidental Renovators, as they confronted an intimidating list of issues plaguing the property, which had remained vacant for over three decades.
These challenges included the need for foundation repairs, the installation of a new roof, the collapse of masonry above a bay window, and the discovery of rotten timber throughout the 19th-century building.
Despite receiving expert advice to demolish the house, the determined Millennials decided to embark on a sustainable restoration instead, even though they had no prior experience in renovation and only £10,000 in savings.
They opted to reside in a caravan on the premises while tackling the initial hurdles, such as clearing the substantial amount of debris within the building and securing the structure by raising the roof. Now, after four years of renovation, the couple has proudly announced that their house has finally been approved by inspectors.
Taking to social media to share the news, they said: "The Inspectors have SIGNED US OFF!!!

Young Thug was again denied bail last week as he continues to fight charges in the US state of Georgia over his alleged involvement in a criminal gang.According to ABC News, the judge overseeing the case, Ural Glanville, said that he believes the rapper’s release would pose a threat to the community, adding that he remains concerned about possible witness intimidation.Young Thug, real name Jeffery Williams, was charged in May last year – alongside fellow rapper Gunna and 26 others – with numerous counts of racketeering. Prosecutors allege that the rapper co-founded a gang that went on to commit murders, shootings and carjackings, which he then bragged about in his music videos. The latter part of the prosecution’s case against Williams has proven particularly controversial, as it’s part of a trend in criminal cases in the US where a rapper’s creative output is used as evidence against them.
