A woman has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a house in north Manchester. The blaze began at a maisonette on Southdown Crescent in Blackley shortly before 9:45pm.
Five fire engines, police and paramedics raced to the scene. Two people, a man and a woman, had managed to escape the property before their arrival.
The woman was attended to by paramedics who then took her to hospital. The man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. Firefighters donned breathing apparatus as they tackled and extinguished the fire.

They remain at the scene tonight carrying out searches and safety checks in the building.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said, “At around 9:45pm this evening (Friday January 12), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a residential property on Southdown Crescent in Blackley.
“Five fire engines from Blackley, Phillips Park, Manchester Central, Hollins and Chadderton fire stations quickly arrived at the scene, which involved a fire on the first floor of a maisonette.
"A man and a woman had escaped the building before the arrival of the fire service. The man received treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene and the woman was transferred to the care of the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and taken to hospital.
“Firefighters used hose reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Crews remain at the scene to carry out further safety checks to the building.”
