Woman in her 70s suffers 'life-threatening injuries' after being struck by car

A man has been arrested after an elderly woman was struck by a car as she crossed the road in Rochdale.
Emergency services raced to the scene of the smash on Falinge Road, close to the roundabout at Sheriff Street, just before 4pm yesterday (Thursday). The woman - aged in her 70s - was hit by a Vauxhall Zafira as she 'attempted to cross the road', police said.
She was rushed to hospital from the scene. She is being treated for 'potentially life-threatening injuries'.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug-driving, Greater Manchester Police confirmed. He remains in custody for questioning.
After the crash yesterday, a police cordon was put in place on Falinge Street close to the roundabout. Eyewitnesses also reported spotting the helicopter circling overhead.
Officers from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are urging any witnesses of the incident, or anyone with information, to come forward. They also want to speak to anyone who has CCTV, mobile, doorbell or dash cam footage from the area.
