If you've been anywhere near TikTok recently, chances are you spent some time wondering what on earth Zepotha is.
If you hadn't heard of it - then it was only a matter of time until you did. The trend has seemingly blown up out of nowhere - starting with floods of comments across people's videos informing them: 'You look just like Alex from Zepotha!" - or something along those lines.
This quickly snowballed into people sharing their Zepotha-style make-up tutorials and reminiscing over the 1987 film's plot. A filter which decides which Zepotha character you are began to circulate.

Why had no one ever heard of it before? That's because Zepotha isn't actually real - as convincing as the TikToks may seem. The trend was a stroke of genius started by an 18-year-old independent artist from Oxfordshire - and she's using it to promote her upcoming album.
On Saturday August 12, Emily Jeffri posted a TikTok proposing to create the fake film. Encouraging people to tell others they looked like characters from the film, she said we could 'witness new lore develop' and 'main characters emerge' as they 'convince thousands of people that this weirdly titled 80s horror film actually exists.'
Soundtracking the TikTok is her own song 'Do You Remember Me.' She wrote in the caption: "putting this song forward as the movie’s main theme, i think it has zepotha vibes tbh".
