The punishment plunged them into the relegation zone and they kicked off Sunday's clash level on points with bottom-placed Burnley.
Supporters have vented frustration at what they believe is a harsh punishment and protests were ongoing before kick-off. Fans gathered outside Goodison Park to build the atmosphere before kick-off and pink cards with the Premier League logo above the word 'corrupt' were handed out.

Once inside Goodison Park, supporters raised the cards during the Premier League anthem as the players walked out onto the pitch. They did so again in the 10th minute.
Everton fans also made their feelings clear outside a local pub, which was adorned with a huge banner that read: "Where there is power, greed and money... there is corruption".
A large group of supporters gathered outside that pub, building the atmosphere and protesting against the Premier League. Another sign close by read: "PL we're coming for you!"
Shortly before kick-off, the Premier League signage was walked onto the pitch and placed down to a loud chorus of boos from those inside the stadium. A large number of pink cards were also presented.
