Many of us dream of having a white Christmas, just like you see in the movies. Yet that’s not often the case here in Greater Manchester, where you’re probably going to get rain instead of snow.
But if you are hoping for a white Christmas, then it’s looking more likely to happen here in Manchester than in other cities including Cardiff and Liverpool, according to the latest odds. It comes after Greater Manchester experienced some - if very fleeting - snowfall over the weekend during the recent cold snap.
There’s a 16.7per cent chance that there will be a white Christmas in Manchester this year, according to experts at OLBG, with an odds of 5/1. Granted, it’s not that likely, but we can still dream.

Naturally the Scottish cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow topped the list, both with odds of 6/4 for a white Christmas and a 40per cent probability. Leeds follows in second place with odds of 5/2 and a probability of 28.6per cent. Belfast, Birmingham and Nottingham all had the same odds as Manchester.
Last year was technically a White Christmas in the UK, with 9per cent of stations recording snow falling, although none reported any snow lying on the ground, according to the Met Office. The definition that the Met Office uses to define a white Christmas is for one snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25 December somewhere in the UK.
