Only urgent repairs to council houses will be carried out next week during strike action.
West Lothian Council is advising council tenants of disruption to housing repairs due to industrial action.
Unite the Union have confirmed that their members in the council’s Building Services teams will be taking industrial action from Tuesday, December 19 to Thursday, December 21, inclusive and on January 3 and 4.
During the days covered by the action, only emergency housing repairs will be carried out. Emergency repairs could include issues such as: serious water pipe leaks; no heating or hot water; failure of electrical supply; or insecure property.
All other repairs and maintenance appointments will be cancelled, and Building Services will contact those tenants to rearrange these works in due course.
A council spokesperson said: “Please note that non-urgent repairs are currently suspended to allow resources to be focused on bringing vacant house back into use to help address homelessness and reduce waiting lists.
“Tenants can continue to report repair requests online at https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/request-a-repair or by calling 01506 280000.
“We would like to apologise to any tenants affected by this industrial action.”

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic Starting in the 2000s, for a little over a decade, 3D was sold as a value-added feature of moviegoing, even though, with rare exceptions (e.g., the “Avatar” films), it never worked too well or added very much.
