A Bathgate-based butchers toasted success at the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards.
Hugh Black & Sons Ltd were named winners of the Best for Scottish Sourcing (Multiple Retailer) category as food and drink businesses from across the country came together at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2023.
Hugh Black & Sons Ltd are a family butchers’ business that was established in 1987 and now boasts 13 retail shops across Lanarkshire, Fife and Stirling as well as West Lothian.
Hugh Black said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised at the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards as Best for Scottish Sourcing (Multiple Retailer).
“To find ourselves shortlisted with some huge names such as Asda and Aldi was incredible, but never in our wildest dreams did we think we would win. We are incredibly proud of our Scottish Sourcing.
“As great believers in the Farm to Fork philosophy, the provenance of our products is very important to us and our customers. “
He added: “We have developed close relationships with the markets and farmers we work with, selecting only the finest from Scotland’s leading livestock farmers, so it was brilliant to hear the judges recognising this.
“Our Haggis, Lamb Valentine Steaks and Ribeye Fillet Steaks were also shortlisted and, while they didn’t win on the night, just reaching the finals for these products was a huge achievement.
“Events like this are so important for businesses in Scotland to come together and celebrate our fantastic and vibrant industry and help inspire collaboration and innovation across the sector.”
