Luckily for supporters, the players had decided to do the opposite and finally wake up, dominating possession as they tried to carve a way back into the game. Eriksen halved the deficit before half-time, flicking a lovely finish past Matt Turner.
Casemiro levelled the scoreline just seven minutes into the second half and when Marcus Rashford was fouled in the area, Fernandes had the chance to give his side the lead. The Portuguese midfielder duly slammed his spot-kick into the bottom corner, turning the tide.
Ferdinand, who may or may not have still been watching, tweeted again, joking: "Just woke up… everyone ok?"
United's social media team saw the opportunity to poke fun at their former player, replying to his tweet with: "Wakey wakey!" And as ever, Ferdinand took the jibe on good faith, replying: "I'm here guys."
