A young Ayrshire bus driver involved in a horror crash on the A77 has died.
The 23-year-old was left fighting for his life in hospital following the devastating smash near Fenwick on Monday (August 14).
But the youngster succumbed to his severe injuries yesterday at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Both the Stagecoach vehicle and a van were involved in the collision with the driver of the white Ford Transit left in a serious but stable condition. The van driver is now in a stable condition.
Five ambulances, two specialists medical teams and an air ambulance were all scrambled to the major incident shortly after 5.30pm on Monday.
Two bus passengers, a 68-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, were taken to Crosshouse Hospital by ambulance as a precaution and later discharged.
The road was closed for around 10 hours to allow crash investigators to comb the scene.
Police said in a statement today: "A 23-year-old man has died following a serious crash on the A77 near Galston in East Ayrshire on Monday, August 14.
"The incident happened around 5.30pm near to the junction with the A719 and involved a white Ford Transit and a single decker Stagecoach bus.
"The bus driver, aged 23, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with life-threatening injuries. He died in hospital on Saturday, August 19."The transit driver, a 42-year-old man, was also taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries. His condition is described as stable.
