A ‘doting dad’ who ‘lived for his children’ took his own life after an ‘ongoing struggle’ with his mental health, an inquest has heard.
Stephen Hughes, 44, was found dead at his home on May Walk in Partington, Trafford on Sunday, July 23 last year.
A hearing on Monday (January 15) at South Manchester Coroners' Court in Stockport heard how Stephen’s mother had gone to his home that morning ‘fearing the worst’ after not receiving her daily message from him.

The inquest heard that Stephen had heartbreakingly told his mother he would message her every morning and that the day she did not receive a text would be the day that he had gone.
Giving evidence, detective inspector Matt Dixon, of GMP's Trafford District, said police received a call from Stephen’s mother after she arrived at her son’s address on July 23. In the call she said she was concerned for a suicidal male.
The inquest heard two handwritten notes were found at Stephen’s address including one that read: ‘Warning carbon monoxide’, prompting the fire and rescue service to be called.
The other note indicated that Stephen had intended to take his own life and mentioned the breakdown of a relationship.
Stephen had also left out his will that was titled ‘Mum’, and boxes of artefacts and memorabilia for his children.
In a statement pathologist Dr Andrew Yates said it was his opinion that Stephen’s cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning after a toxicology report found excessive carbon monoxide levels in his blood.
