Threave Rovers suffered their first defeat in five games – despite taking the lead at Lesmahagow.
Dean Brotherson put them in front after half an hour but the hosts were soon back level through Kieran McGuire.
Lesmahagow then had Kyle Weir dismissed in the second half but took the lead through Sam Duncan’s header, with Gary Nicholson scoring to seal a 3-1 win.
Threave interim gaffer Paul McGinley said: “It was a game you couldn’t have done much tactically due to the state of the pitch. It’s not an excuse, it’s just a fact – the pitch was horrendous.
“We played well in the first half, we controlled things, then there was an unfortunate error from the ref when the boy has broken through and scored but he is offside. The second half we didn’t defend corners and that’s cost us the points.
“It was a really horrible game and a really horrible day all round.
“The first half we did the things we should have done, they adapted far better as they play on it every week so credit to them for that.”
East of Scotland first division side Leith Athletic are the visitors to Castle Douglas this weekend in the SFA South Region Challenge Cup.
And McGinley is planning to make some changes after last weekend’s defeat.
He said: “The team will be freshened up, I’ll be looking to bring in a couple of lads who have sat out and been
patient.
“I’m looking to freshen it up and bring a bit more energy and enthusiasm from middle to front. We also need to start to look at things defensively and tighten it up a bit.
“We’re scoring a lot of goals but we’ve been conceding a lot so it’s something we’re going to have to look at so we’re not leaving ourselves as exposed.
“It’s the prime trophy outwith the league, it’s the big cup at our level
