Dementia is a hugely common condition with an estimated 90,000 people across Scotland affected, according to Public Health Scotland.
The condition is progressive, which means it gets worse with time, and the number of dementia cases is expected to increase as the population ages. According to a dementia expert from Brunel University London, dementia is expected to impact 153 million people across the world by 2050.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for the condition, however, spotting the signs early can allow for a treatment plan to be put into place as soon as possible to help patients manage symptoms. Memory loss is the most common sign of the condition, with various behaviours also ringing alarm bells.
To help raise awareness of the lesser-known signs, the expert outlined the early symptoms of dementia to look out for, reports The Express.
Dr Creese said: “Memory loss seems to be the main symptom that people associate with dementia, but it is just one of a number of neuropsychiatric symptoms that we see in people with dementia.
“It is important to look out for behavioural changes such as agitation, aggression, depression, anxiety and apathy, as well as social withdrawal, socially inappropriate behaviour, impulsive behaviour and weird changes in behaviour that were not there before.”
The dementia expert went on to explain that the "vast majority" of those with Alzheimer's disease, the most prevalent form of dementia, will experience at least one of these symptoms.
It is therefore crucial to red flags, especially in later line.
Dr Creese said: “When these symptoms occur later in life, as sustained symptoms that are not attributable to another medical or psychiatric condition, they carry an increased risk of dementia

London Mayor had turned down plans to build an MSG Sphere in Stratford, citing issues of light pollution and negative impacts on residents.Plans for the venue – which would have been the city’s equivalent to the MSG Las Vegas Sphere – were first announced back in 2018, when the Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp (MSG) submitted a planning application to the London Legacy Development Corporation, requesting to transform a site in Stratford. If it had come to fruition, the 21,500-capacity venue would have been the largest concert arena in the UK.
