With the summer bank holiday well and truly behind us, Brits have to wait until December for their next break.
And with the dreary, wet weather returning, it can't come soon enough. Clever workers could actually maximise their time off over the festive period, by making the most of the UK bank holidays.
As bank holidays are national occasions, they won't be taken out of your paid time off by most offices, meaning that you can secure an extra day here and there away from the desk. Here's how you could double your time off work this Christmas.
The next bank holidays in England and Wales is Christmas Day, December 25 which falls on a Monday this year. Boxing Day comes next, falling on Tuesday, December 26.

They are technically the final bank holidays of the year, but of course New Year's Day, January 1, takes place the following Monday. So, you could get ten days off work by booking the dates in between Christmas and New Year off.
That means you're using three days of annual leave to get ten off - returning to work on Tuesday January 2. The dates you need to book off are Wednesaday December 27, Thursday, December 28 and Friday December 29.
As the New Year gets underway, it's also worth bearing in mind the bank holidays that take place during Easter and the summer. You could use the same trick as outlined above to further maximise your days off.
