The record-breaking film from Universal and Illumination premieres on the platform December 3rd, there joining a slate of titles with which the whole family can engage.

Throughout the same period, family-friendly films also made up at least three of the global Top 10 English Films each week.

Movie is an origin story for our two Brooklyn plumbers who are brothers and best friends: Mario (Chris Pratt), the brave one with the “let’s-a go” attitude, and the perpetually anxious Luigi (Charlie Day), who would prefer to go nowhere. We open with the Super Mario Brothers reckoning with their struggling plumbing business, and wind up in a whirlwind adventure through Mushroom Kingdom. Through their journey, we meet a cast of familiar, lovable characters, ultimately uniting together to defeat the power-hungry villain, Bowser (Jack Black).

“There’s something really special about Mario games,” says composer Brian Tyler. As a lifelong fan of the Mario series, Tyler was excited to bring the music from all of those worlds into a new animated universe for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. “I realized by hearing the music outside of the game, it immediately takes you back in a way that’s different from movies,” he says. “With movies, you typically see them once or twice, whereas when you add together the playtime of any game you like, you’re in that universe for days.”

Basing the way Leo sounds on his squeaky-scratchy, slightly guttural impression of the late Hollywood agent Bernie Brillstein, Sandler voices a crusty old iguana who’s spent three-quarters of a century — practically his entire life — trapped in an elementary school classroom.
