David Tierney, 31, was spotted by undercover officers as part of Operation Dragonfire after he managed to breach the perimeter fence. He then made his way towards the wall of the prison whilst carrying a rucksack, before he was tackled by an officer.
When officers searched the bag they found numerous iPhones, small Zanco phones, charging leads and SIM cards, as well as packages of drugs.

Tierney, of Wythenshawe, later became involved in the burglary of a house alongside another man, Cameron Robinson. Both had awoken a mum by loudly entering her home, before she confronted them and pleaded with them about her sleeping baby upstairs.
Both were jailed earlier this week after Robinson admitted robbery and Tierney admitted burglary.
Jane Dagnall, prosecutor, told Manchester Crown Court that police were focussing on those who attempt to bring in or ‘throw over’ items into HMP Forest Bank, as part of Operation Dragonfire.
In September 2021, officers saw Tierney walking through the woodlands nearby after making his way through the perimeter fencing.
“He was detained and his rucksack was seized. He had to be subdued with a baton,” she said.
“Officers found four iPhones, five Zanco phones, charging leads, SIM cards, along with several packages containing drugs. There were multiple packages of cocaine and cannabis.”
The total value of drugs seized was £16,000. Both phones and drugs are said to be a ‘prized commodity’ in prison.
