Households across England have been warned that some major recycling changes will take place in a few years.
The government said the current systems for recycling in England is equivalent to a "postcode lottery" with different areas having different rules. However, it added that by 2026, recycling rules will become standards for all households, regardless of which part of the country they're in.
A once-a-week collection requirement for food waste will also be implemented to reduce landfills. Environment Secretary Therese Coffey noted that households in different areas face difficulty recycling due to the restriction of some materials, Coventry Live.

The District Councils' Network (DCN), which represents a variety of local authorities, warned that the new rules and said it could lead to higher council costs and potentially more charges for taxpayers. Despite this, they welcomed the decision which would provide more discretionary powers to collect waste.
The new announcement will only affect England since Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales set their own recycling policies under devolution. Other rules being propposed include non-hazardous industrial waste being collected every fortnight.
But, councils have pointed out that this could result in higher environmental costs elsewhere, such as more fuel being burnt through transportation. Ms Coffey said: “Simpler recycling will help us all recycle more easily, doing our bit to help save the planet and make the best use of precious resources
