Easter is a time to celebrate new life and new beginnings. So in today’s Mancunian Way we’ll be raising a glass to the heroics of Reece Burns and wife-to-be Shelby Lomax who saved their baby daughter’s life after delivering her in the bath at home in Tameside.

When Shelby Lomax's waters broke and she suddenly went into labour there wasn’t enough time to get to hospital. Luckily help was at hand in the shape of her fiancé Reece Burns.
The 28-year-old had to follow the instructions of a 999 operator to deliver baby Casaiya in the bath at home in Droylsden. Terrifyingly, she was born 'blue' and not breathing with Reece fearing she may have been stillborn.
But he calmly gave her mouth-to-mouth and she began breathing lightly just as paramedics arrived. Casaiya and Shelby, 27, were then rushed to hospital and the baby spent three days on a neonatal intensive care unit.
But now both mum and baby are well and back at home, where the tot is 'thriving' following the whirlwind delivery. And Shelby credits Reece with saving their daughter’s life.
“The way he reacted to the situation and how calm he was, I think saved her life,” she said. “He put all his own emotions aside to make sure both of us were alright. We are just lucky he was there."
But modest Reece shrugged off the praise. "I know Shelby sees it as a really big thing,” he said.
