A drama about the five-year manhunt for Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe is launching on ITV.
The Long Shadow will focus on the lives of the victims of the killer, as well as their families the officers who worked to capture him. The series draws on the extensive archive of the investigation and is also based on Wicked Beyond Belief, Michael Bilton’s critically acclaimed account of the case, published by William Collins.
It's written by Hijack's George Kay and directed by Lewis Arnold, who was also behind the crime dramas Sherwood, Time and Des. Its cast includes Harry Potter and Indiana Jones stay Toby Jones, Happy Valley's Catherine Kelly and former soap star Jill Halfpenny.

Sutcliffe, an HGV driver, was convicted of killing thirteen women and attempting to murder seven others between 1975 and 1980. Two of the murders took place in Manchester, while the rest were committed in West Yorkshire.

Award-winning actor Toby Jones, who voiced Dobby in two of the Harry Potter films, will play DCS Dennis Hoban, who initially led the enquiry, with David Morrissey taking the role of DCS George Oldfield, who famously took on the investigation. Lee Ingleby is DCS Jim Hobson, while Katherine Kelly plays Emily Jackson with Daniel Mays as her husband, Sydney Jackson and Shaun Thomas as their son, Neil Jackson.
