The Chase's Anne Hegerty on ‘brutal truth’ behind her relationships

The Chase quiz genius Anne Hegerty, whose alter-ego is the menacing Governess on the ITV gameshow, has opened up on the difficulties she experiences in her relationships. The star admitted the "brutal truth" of why she struggles to maintain a relationship with a partner during an eye-opening interview back in 2021. The 65 year old TV favourite explained that she finds it "difficult" to fall in love with "real people" and it's meant her connections often fizzle out.
Anne, who has never married, was also previously diagnosed with autism and shared how that can create different issues in her life. Speaking about her lifestyle and relationships, the Beat the Chasers star said: "I think the problem is I find it really difficult to fall in love with real people. "I’ve thought: am I in love with this guy? And then we kind of get together and I think: damn it, no, oh dear," Anne told The Guardian.
The quizzer went on to say that the "brutal truth" is that she doesn't really like women and struggles to be friends with them. Instead, she prefers to interact with men in a platonic way and that can affect her ability to have relationships too. She doesn't see herself as a feminist and also admitted she's "never really related to women" because they often appear to "care about stuff she doesn't quite get".
The Chase favourite, whose co-star Jenny Ryan recently opened up about living with anxiety, went on to say that she feared growing up as a child, as she worried that she wouldn't be able to function healthily as an adult due to living with autism.
