Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor Awards Circuit Column: It’s decision time. After months of campaigning, festivalgoing, splashy premieres, magazine profiles and morning-show appearances, Academy voters will finally get their ballots this week (Thursday, Jan. 11).

Amid the flood of awards-season nominations comes AARP, whose Movies for Grownups Awards noms arrived today. Oppenheimer leads the way with six mentions, followed by Killers of the Flower Moon with five. Both will vie for Best Picture alongside Barbie, The Color Purple and Maestro.

Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer capped a big night at the Golden Globes on Sunday by taking the Best Motion Picture – Drama award, giving it five trophies on the night and solidifying it as a frontrunner for the Oscars.

Billie Eilish made a heartfelt speech at the Golden Globes today in light of the memory of her being asked by writer-director Greta Gerwig to make the hit song “What Was I Made For?”  for the Barbie soundtrack.  “It was exactly a year ago, almost, that we were shown the movie, and I was very, very miserable and depressed at the time. And writing that song kind of saved me a little bit,” Eilish said. “And a year later, here we are. It’s really surreal, and I feel incredibly lucky and grateful.”

It marks Nolan’s first Globe, having been previously nominated for writing 2000’s “Memento,” writing and directing 2010’s “Inception” and directing 2017’s “Dunkirk.” In this year’s race, Nolan was up against Bradley Cooper for “Maestro,” Greta Gerwig for “Barbie,” Yorgos Lanthimos for “Poor Things,” Martin Scorsese for “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Celine Song for “Past Lives.” “The only time I’ve ever been on this stage before was accepting one of these on behalf of our dear friend, Heath Ledger, and that was complicated and challenging for me,” Nolan said.
