On the morning of the 2024 Oscar nominations, Variety spoke to this year’s contenders — including “The Holdovers” star Da’Vine Joy Randolph and “Past Lives” director Celine Song — about getting recognized by the Academy. How does it feel to make history with this nomination? It’s truly something that belongs to my community.

The Academy has confirmed to Deadline that this is the first time two international foreign-language movies have been nominated for Best Picture in the same year and the first time that two foreign-language movies have received five Oscar nominations apiece in the same year.

She wrote ‘What Was I Made For?’ with her brother Finneas O’Connell, and it has also been nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the Grammys.Were she to win, Eilish would join an elite group of composers to have won multiple Academy Awards for Best Original Song, a list that includes Elton John, Randy Newman, Burt Bacharach, Tim Rice and Giorgio Moroder.‘I’m Just Ken’ was written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, the latter of whom is the frontman of Swedish electro-pop band Miike Snow.

Murphy was expected to take home Best Actor, but lost out to Paul Giamatti, who won Best Actor for his turn in The Holdovers in one of the biggest upsets of the evening.

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor Nominations for the 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards have been announced with the surprise of two international titles — Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” and Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” — the first time two international titles have been nominated by the guild. The lineup includes many of the Oscars‘ usual suspects as voting for nominations is underway.

The 2024 Critics Choice Awards show is happening this weekend and we’re here to remind you about the nominees!

The American Society of Cinematographers revealed the nominees for the 2024 ASC Awards, a precursor to the Oscar for Cinematography, and the results were somewhat as expected. Emphasis on “somewhat.” In the Theatrical Feature Film category, Matthew Libatique (“Maestro”), Robbie Ryan (“Poor Things”), Hoyte van Hoytema (“Oppeneheimer”), and Rodrigo Prieto (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) all earned nominations.

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) reveals its list of 2024 Special Achievement Honorees which includes Killers of the Flower Moon, Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner at Foxxhill productions, Fatima Robinson, head choreographer on The Color Purple 2024, and others were chosen for their contributions to the entertainment industry. These honorees will be celebrated at the organization’s 7th Annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards luncheon, taking place on Sunday, March 3rd in the Centennial Room at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in downtown Los Angeles.
