“Tár” director Todd Field says he may never make another feature film — despite rave reviews for the recent Cate Blanchett drama, which he also penned and produced. Field, 59, got candid about the next stage of his career in a recent interview with Cinema Scope, revealing that it’s “highly likely” he’s done with directing. “There’s a real challenge in making a film of any size,” he explained.
“It’s not for the faint of heart. I wish I was cut out for different stuff, because I probably wouldn’t make more films.”“Tár” is Field’s third film and was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Field’s previous films, 2001’s “In The Bedroom” and 2006’s “Little Children,” were met with widespread acclaim and received multiple Oscar noms.
Explaining why he may never direct again, Field stated it was because the process “takes a great deal out of me.”He said the struggle to make a movie can partially be attributed to how long the process is and the amount of time it takes in production. “You have to give it everything,” he sighed. “And as you get older, you realize how valuable time is; there’s only so much time in that hourglass.
I’m not in my 20s or 30s anymore — I’ll be 60 in year and a half. You start thinking about these things.”Field worked as an actor, appearing in “Twister,” “Walking and Talking” and “Eyes Wide Shut.” “Tár” starred Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár, a praised conductor who is accused of sexual misconduct and of abuse.Blanchett won a bevy of Best Actress awards for her role, including a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a Critic’s Choice Award. The actress praised Field in a recent interview with Screen Daily, saying: “I’ve made it blatantly clear that I’d love to work with him

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor The victory of “Everything Everywhere All at Once” at the 95th Oscars on Sunday is a milestone for Asian talent in front of and behind the camera. It’s also a sign that the Academy Awards is unafraid to make bold, unconventional bets and to embrace a movie that, on paper, could not be farther removed from typical Oscar bait. And yet the A24 film walked away with the most Oscars with seven, including statues for best picture, director and original screenplay for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, actress for Michelle Yeoh, supporting actress for Jamie Lee Curtis and supporting actor Ke Huy Quan. This marked A24’s second best picture win since the stunning upset of “Moonlight” (2016) over “La La Land,” also known as “envelope gate.”

Hello, and welcome to Oscars Sunday on Deadline. Tonight we gather as another lengthy awards season draws to a close, and what a bizarre season it has been. Before the year started, who would’ve thought a pic like A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, a scrappy sci-fi comedy adventure about an Asian-American family, would go from outside underdog to odds-on front-runner? The film debuted last year out at SXSW but has stuck around, charming its way onto screens across the world and picking up top honors from all four major guilds — a sweep only four other films have ever achieved. But can it win Best Picture? That’s perhaps the biggest question still at play this evening.

She’s tipped to become the fifth actress in history to win three or more Oscars at tonight’s ceremony, but for Cate Blanchett, her Hollywood career has come at a cost. It’s the weekend of the 2023 Academy Awards and we’re making our final predictions in all of the categories.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” swept all the major guild awards, the first time that grand slam had happened in a decade and only the fifth time in history, the suspense seemed to drain out of the 95th Academy Awards. After all, how suspenseful can it be if everything goes to “Everything?” But it’d be a mistake to think that Sunday’s show won’t be a nail-biter in many ways.
Michelle Yeoh is gaining attention for something she posted and deleted online, and it might have gone against the Academy rules as a nominee in the Best Actress category.
Lindzi Scharf This awards season has seen a return to sparkle, sequins, sexy silhouettes and, well, celebration. “We’re a little more liberated,” says Jessica Paster, a veteran stylist who dressed Aubrey Plaza in a slinky Louis Vuitton dress for the Critics Choice Awards, “Babylon” actress Li Jun Li in a strapless Dolce & Gabbana for the Golden Globes, and Emily Blunt in a form-fitting Oscar de la Renta dress for the SAG Awards. “Before, when people would say black tie, it was a big ol’ ball gown. We still love a big ol’ ball gown, but anything goes now. The pandemic changed a lot about the way we feel. We realized that we have to live our best life, and that means whatever we feel like wearing, we can wear.”
