A supermarket which was previously been named the most expensive for eight staple items has now been rated the second cheapest this week.
Shopping at Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury's and Morrisons, we've been comparing the cost of the same eight items - a two-pint bottle of milk, a loaf of bread, coffee, teabags, butter, beans, chicken breasts and mince.
Since we’ve started comparing the six supermarkets in the face of the cost-of-living crisis, the most expensive chains for the same basic products have shifted. In March 2022, we named Sainsbury’s as the most expensive - a title it held on for eight consecutive months. This week, we’ve found it’s the second cheapest of the six.

Lidl, which we have named the cheapest every week since the beginning of September 2022, remains in top place with none of its items changing in price since last week.
Meanwhile, another three out of the six supermarkets have increased the price of at least one of the eight products - with Sainsbury's, Aldi and Tesco all seeing a rise in the price of teabags.
The cheapest supermarket, Lidl, came to a bill of £11.92, Sainsbury's came second with a bill of £12.17 whilst Aldi came third by just a penny at £12.18.
Previous cheapest supermarket Lidl saw the same eight goods come to £12.22 due to the 30p price rise of the 800g loaf of white bread.
For the eight items we track the prices of at the six main supermarkets, Asda has consistently been the dearest every week since October and for the majority of the last 12 months. That is no different this week.
It retains that position in this week's comparison, with a bill of £12.68 for the same basket of groceries. To keep costs down
