Strictly Come Dancing’s fan favourite movie week got underway on Saturday evening as week three of the competition kicked into full swing. Tasked with the daunting challenge of being the first to perform, Richie Anderson and Giovanni Pernice were the first couple to take to the floor in an animated Samba performance set to the Lion King classic Hakuna Matata.
Dressed in Timon and Pumba costumes, the lively duo strutted their stuff on the dance floor with plenty of energy and oodles of enthusiasm, even earning them a formidable combined score of 27 from the judges. Shirley Ballas in particular commended Richie for his “beautiful stationary samba walks” as she openly admitted after that performance she wouldn’t “be able to look at Giovanni the same way again”.
However fans at home were less convinced, with one fan even savagely commenting “Oh I’m sorry. It hurt my eyes to watch that dance.” Another fan was equally unimpressed adding “What the hell have I just witnessed!?” While a third echoed similar comments as they wrote: “That was c**p” A fourth also didn’t hold back as they commented: “The opening duo were absolutely awful.
How is that a samba and why aren't the judges not slating that. Giovanni clearly is uncomfortable.” Another fan also couldn’t help but question the judges decision to be so generous with their scoring, as they added: “No way was that worth a 7 or 8....I think Craig was generous giving them a 5.” The costumes in particular were also drawing many comments from fans, who couldn't quite believe how they'd been able to dance in 'onesies'.
