Strictly Come Dancing star struck down with 'vicious' illness just weeks before show launch

Amanda Abbington has told fans she's suffering from food poising just weeks away from the Strictly Come Dancing launch in September.
The BBC competition is just weeks away from its big return next month and the contestants and professionals are dusting off their dancing shoes. Taking to Instagram, the Sherlock star wrote: "Food poisoning. Particularly vicious one. Any tips on how to feel back to normal [would be] greatly appreciated."
Strictly will be back on screens on Saturday, September 23, when this year's celebrities will be paired with their professional partners for the first time. Amanda will join Angela Rippon, Layton Williams, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Eddie Kadi, Angela Scanlon, Zara McDermott, Adam Thomas and Nikita Kanda take to the floor.
They will also be joined by Ellie Leach, Jody Cundy, Bobby Brazier, Nigel Harman, Annabel Croft and Les Dennis.
Amanda was the first celebrity announced as part of the Strictly line-up earlier this year which caused a stir online with fans threatening to boycott the show. The 51-year-old was accused of being transphobic after criticising an event that was being advertised as a family cabaret but included topless performers, drag acts with risqué names, and performances that were described as “highly sexualised”.
Amanda criticised the show saying that she was open minded, but tweeted: “This is bulls**t. Not for f**en babies. And if you think it is, there is something fundamentally wrong with you.”
