Like seemingly every other musician on the planet, the members of the New Jersey post-hardcore institution Thursday recently found themselves wondering how to spend their time. The coronavirus pandemic forced them to cancel all of their 2020 shows, and one member was about to be a father.

Today (April 20), Mike Dean, the producer/multi-instrumentalist known for his work with Kanye West and Travis Scott, has released a new instrumental mixtape titled 4:20. “I have always had this idea that I wanted to release my own music on the date 4/20,” Dean explained in a press release.

It’s impossible not to feel good when Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond are talking. The two living Beastie Boys lightly ribbing each other, reminiscing, making bad jokes, and showing goofy photos of their teenage years—as far as nostalgia goes, this is about as warm and fuzzy as it gets.

Over 20 artists are coming together this Thursday (April 23) to cover Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These.” Among the participating musicians are Dua Lipa, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Ellie Goulding, AJ Tracey, Biffy Clyro, Sigrid, Sean Paul, Sam Fender, and Royal Blood, according to the BBC and The Guardian. The artists recorded their “Times Like These” portion at their homes; the whole’s segment’s produced by Fraser T. Smith.

My Bloody Valentine have licensed their album art to Supreme for a new clothing collection. The artworks referenced are for the 1988 EP Feed Me With Your Kiss, 1990’s Glider EP, and, of course, Angus Cameron and the band’s Loveless cover.

The Infamous, Mobb Deep’s classic 1995 album, is getting a 25th anniversary digital-only reissue. The new expanded edition includes bonus tracks previously unavailable on streaming, including “Shook One, Part I” (Original Version) and the Infamous Sessions Mixes of “The Money (Version 2)” and “Lifestyles of the Infamous.” The Infamous - 25th Anniversary Expanded Edition arrives this Friday, April 24, via Certified Classics. A vinyl anniversary reissue is set to be released later this year.

Earlier this year, Mount Eerie, aka Phil Elverum, announced a North American tour slated to kick off this month. Elverum then announced that the trek had been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The xx’s Romy Madley Croft played a set during an Instagram Live session earlier today (April 19). During her performance, Croft announced that she was working on her debut solo album, as Stereogum points out. Croft also played a new song, slated to appear on the solo LP. Power pop veteran Wreckless Eric has tested positive for COVID-19, the artist revealed both on Facebook and in a lengthy blog post today (April 19). “I haven’t actually been very well in the past three or four weeks—chest and rib pains, cough, low level fever, intermittant headaches,” Eric wrote on his blog. “I was pretty sure it must be the virus though I was told the only way I could get confirmation of this was by presenting myself at the emergency room.” Read his full statement here.

Henry Grimes, the legendary multi-instrumentalist and poet who worked alongside some of the biggest names in American jazz, has died, as WBGO reports. His wife Margaret Davis Grimes confirmed the news to the Jazz Foundation of America, according to reporter Nate Chinen. Grimes passed away from complications related to COVID-19; he was 84 years old.

The Soft Boys’ Matthew Seligman, who played bass on the group’s 1980 masterpiece Underwater Moonlight, has died. Frontman Robyn Hitchcock confirmed the news in a post on his official Facebook page April 17.
