Derek Jones, the guitarist of the Las Vegas post-hardcore band Falling in Reverse, has died. His bandmate Ronnie Radke revealed the news. He was 35. The cause of death is currently unknown. Pitchfork has reached out to Falling in Reverse’s representatives.
Dead & Company—the band featuring members of the Grateful Dead and John Mayer—have canceled their summer 2020 tour because of COVID-19. The North American dates were scheduled to take place this July and August. All tickets will be fully refunded. “We are thankful for your understanding and we look forward to the day when we can all be reunited,” the band said in a statement. “In the meantime, keep the faith and believe in the power of music. We will return. We will get by. We will survive.”

Dixie Chicks have postponed the release of their new album Gaslighter. The trio’s comeback record does not currently have a release date. The album had been scheduled to arrive May 1 (via Columbia). Dixie Chicks co-produced Gaslighter with Jack Antonoff.
The Stonewall Inn and World of Wonder Productions have announced “The Stonewall Inn Gives Back!,” a livestream concert event set to take place this Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. Eastern to benefit LGBTQ+ nightlife workers directly impacted by COVID-19. The concert, which will take place on the WOWPresents YouTube channel, will feature performances by Cyndi Lauper, Troye Sivan, Rufus Wainwright, Kim Petras, Allie X, MUNA, and many more. Danny Elfman, the composer and former leader of new wave band Oingo Boingo, has re-recorded one of the band’s songs while in self-isolation. In a video recorded by his daughter on Instagram, Elfman performed “Running on a Treadmill” from the band’s second LP, 1982’s Nothing to Fear. He explained that the urge to revisit the song came during preparation for his set at Coachella this year, which was postponed in the wake of COVID-19.

The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) is a new organization launched by several independent music venues and promoters, along with Independent Venue Week, following the widespread cancellations of shows in the wake of COVID-19. Offering free membership to venues, the organization announced its goal to “fight for the survival of independent venues, their employees, artists, fans and their communities.”
