‘SNL 1975’ Origin Movie Finds Its Jim Henson, Michael O’Donoghue & Billy Crystal

EXCLUSIVE: Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons (The Accountant 2) is among the final additions to the cast of Sony Pictures’ film SNL 1975 (working title), based on real-life behind-the-scenes accounts of the opening night of Saturday Night Live. Other new cast members for the Jason Reitman pic include Billy Bryk (Friendship), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things), Taylor Gray (Star Wars: Rebels) and Mcabe Gregg (Teenage Badass).

In an appearance on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, Sharon Stone thanked longtime Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels for saving her life.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Sharon Stone stopped by Dana Carvey and David Spade’s “Fly On The Wall” podcast to discuss the time she hosted “Saturday Night Live” back in April 1992 shortly after the release of her erotic blockbuster “Basic Instinct.” Stone remembered being “terrified” during the live taping as protestors stormed the stage seconds before her monologue. Six men were eventually arrested due to the incident. Stone said “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels “personally saved my life” when the protestors charged.

Quite alarmingly, the fifth entry in the Ghostbusters series — following straight on from the unexpectedly charming Afterlife — starts by quoting all 51 words of Robert Frost’s 1923 poem Fire and Ice, which posits two very different apocalyptic scenarios for the end of the world. Has the franchise suddenly fallen prey to the glum Christopher Nolanization of what we used to think of as bubblegum entertainment? Is Paul Feig’s controversial 2016 all-female iteration about to be frozen out of the canon? Will it be worthy and… boring?

Alex Garland took SXSW 2024 by storm last night with the world premiere of his latest film, “Civil War.” And the new feature, about a near-future United States fractured into warring factions, has many moviegoers excited and anxious about the film’s imminent release in theaters and IMAX next month. THR reports that Garland took questions about his new movie at a Film & TV panel in Austin today to explain why he chose to make “Civil War,” if he’s trying to say anything explicit about American politics, and whether A24‘s release of this film before the 2024 US presidential election is deliberate bad timing or coincidental.

Bill Murray has picked not one, not two, but four surprising actors he’d like to see play him in the upcoming Saturday Night Live movie, SNL 1975.Ghostbusters: Afterlife‘s Jason Reitman is set to direct the film, which will tell the behind-the-scenes story of the show’s premiere episode on October 11, 1975.The star-studded cast will see Maze Runner‘s Dylan O’Brien play Dan Aykroyd, while Succession‘s Nicholas Braun will portray Muppets mastermind Jim Henson. Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has also been cast as an unnamed NBC intern.Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Ghostbusers: Frozen Empire premiere, Murray was asked if he’d spoken to Reitman about the upcoming SNL film.“He’s been picking my brain about the SNL days since he was a grasshopper, so he knows a lot of what I know,” said Murray. “He’s an astute student and director.

Colin Jost and Michael Che poked fun at politics and pop culture on Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update” segment.

Caroline Brew editor Ramy Youssef will host the next “Saturday Night Live” episode, airing on March 30, with Travis Scott as the musical guest. This announcement was made during the March 9 “SNL” episode, which was hosted by Josh Brolin with Ariana Grande as the musical guest. Youssef’s upcoming HBO comedy special, “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” debuts on March 23.

Josh Brolin seems to be taking his third Saturday Night Live hosting gig very seriously indeed, judging by the energy he’s bringing to the show’s latest promo.

Billy Zane is set to star in a new original movie for Lifetime that’s based on the true story of an ex-con who moved in with his daughter at Sarah Lawrence College and created a cult-like influence over her friends.

Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the Oscars this year for the fourth time. Other than Bob Hope (19 times), Billy Crystal (nine) and Johnny Carson (five), no solo host has done it more. (Whoopi did it 4 times as well.) But it is a good bet that among those hosts, no one has seen as many of the nominated films. Kimmel is a self-described movie fan, and as I learned from our conversation he not only spends weeks, months even, prepping his monologue, but he also might be one of the few in the room at the Dolby Theater who actually has seen everything. And I mean everything.

The first promo for her Saturday Night Live hosting debut finds Sydney Sweeney strolling through studio 8H, book in hand, when she bumps into castmember Michael Longfellow. She drops her book, he picks it up and goes into a reverie about the title – Haruki Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore – as romantic music swells. We hear Longfellow’s internal monologue as he gets the courage up to ask Sweeney out, but then the clip cuts to Sweeney and, well, let’s say she’s not interested.

Angelique Jackson The Jackson 5 have found their harmony once again for the upcoming biopic “Michael” from director Antoine Fuqua and Oscar winning producer Graham King. After a worldwide search led filmmakers to cast Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, as the King of Pop, with 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi as the younger Michael, fans have been eagerly waiting to see who would round out the rest of the Jackson family. The film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, is currently in production.
