A woman from Glasgow was left 'mortified' after her seatbelt would not close on a ride at a theme park and she had to get off it.
Karen Fay, aged 52, said that she 'wanted the ground to swallow her up' when she could not go on the Nickelodeon Land ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach with her daughter.
The buckle of the seatbelt would not fasten between Karen's legs, meaning the ride could not start so she had to get off and walk past a queue of onlookers, as reported by Lancs Live.
The incident left Karen so upset that she signed up to the weight loss scheme Slimming World the next day.
After weighing 21st 7lb at her heaviest, Karen now weighs 13st 1lb and has dropped a total of six dress sizes, going from a 24 to a 12.
To date, she has lost staggering eight and a half stone.
She said: “My little girl was four at the time and she wanted to go on the ride.
“I wasn’t going to go on, but the guy said do you want to go on it with her as they had adult seats so I said ‘ok, yeah’.
“The bar comes down and they’ve got a seat belt buckle between your legs and it wouldn’t close. The ride couldn’t start because it wouldn’t buckle.
“I was absolutely mortified. I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me.
“I pretty much joined Slimming World straight away.”
Karen, a director at her family-run specialist cleaning firm, piled on the pounds after having kids and weighed 21 st 7lbs after the birth of her second child Charlotte in 2004.
After the incident at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 2008, she decided to do finally something about her weight.
She lost three stone following Slimming World’s food optimisation plans, but in 2014 she struggled to reach the pedals of her new car which was another jolt.
