An 11-year-old boy has died after being hit by a bin lorry in Edinburgh. The youngster was riding a bicycle when he was struck on Whitehouse Road, near the junction with Braehead Road, at around 8.20am on Friday, 1 March.

A schoolgirl was rushed to hospital after being mowed down by a 4x4 this afternoon.
Emergency crews were scrambled to Back O’Hill Road, in the shadow of Stirling Castle, at around 3pm on Sunday.
The 14-year-old girl was raced to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment. Her condition is not known.
The driver of the car, which is believed to be a silver 4x4-style vehicle, stopped briefly at the scene and officers are now keen to trace them.
Road Policing Constable Ian Marshall said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing. I would urge the driver, or anyone who may have seen the crash, to come forward. In addition, if you have dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation then please contact us.”
