Satirical ‘Trombone Champ’ game catches a mighty wind of viral success

Coachella and its organisers Goldenvoice have filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Ghana-based festival Afrochella.According to the suit, which was filed in a California federal court on October 5, Goldenvoice claim that Afrochella (via Pitchfork) is “intentionally trading on the goodwill of well-known Coachella and Chella festivals and trademarks by actively promoting music events in the United States and in Ghana using the confusingly similar mark Afrochella”The suit continued: “Not simply content to imitate and attempt to trade on the goodwill of Coachella, Defendants even went so far as to apply in Ghana to register Coachella as their own trademarks.”“Despite repeated requests from Plaintiffs, Defendants have refused to adopt their own distinctive event name, and as a result, instances of actual confusion have already appeared on social media.”The lawsuit “seeks injunctive relief and damages for Defendants willful infringement in the United States and to protect the public here from confusion”Back in 2017, former Afrochella boss Edward “Deezy” Elohim took to Twitter to call the festival a “Coachella themed event”.Coachella first warned Afrochella in 2016. Camp Flog Gnaw, the annual festival established by Tyler, the Creator, will not return until next year. Tyler's manager Chris Clancy confirmed the news in an interview with Billboard, stressing that the rapper's hectic schedule is the reason the festival will not take place in its usual November slot.

Thania Garcia Depeche Mode has returned to unveil a new album, “Memento Mori,” and accompanying tours of North America and Europe, all to kick off next year. The forthcoming album will be the band’s 15th studio effort and their first release since the death in May of founding member and keyboardist Andy “Fletch” Fletcher. “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time,” said Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore. “After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.” Dave Gahan added, “Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.”

Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival will not return to Los Angeles in 2022.Festival organisers are instead planning for its 2023 return, which would end its four-year absence.The rapper’s manager, Chris Clancy, told Billboard that the reason is “really not that deep”.“Tyler toured all year and was busy with a number of projects. Reading the tea leaves and what’s happening with festivals coming out of the pandemic, we thought it would be best to come back next year,” he said.The last Camp Flog Gnaw was held in 2019.

VR support and motion controls to Holy Wow’s Trombone Champ, describing the project as a “silly meme mod for a silly meme game.”Created by Raicuparta, a modder who specialises in making games VR-compatible, BaboonVR allows fans to play rhythm game Trombone Champ using any “OpenVR-compatible VR headset.”Raicuparta describes BaboonVR as “a silly meme mod for a silly meme game,” and outlines that “the game screen is shown as a projection in front of you, while you use your hands to control the trombone.”Although the BaboonVR will be released as a free open source mod when it’s finished, Raicuparta is currently charging £1.86 ($2) for early access to the mod, which is currently listed on itch.io.
