Prince Harry is due to return to the UK for the Invictus Games in less than two weeks, and King Charles has "left the door open" for an in-person meeting with the possibility of "reconciling".
While Harry is set to return home, Meghan Markle will most likely not be joining him.
Instead, she will stay home with their children, Archie and Lilibet, in Montecito, California.
This would be one reason Meghan wouldn't be invited to the in-person meeting with Charles, reports the Mirror.
However, even if she was coming, the King may not welcome her presence as he may fear she would "overshadow the message of the service".
This comes as Charles plans to return to his royal duties following his cancer diagnosis.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun that while the monarch may be open to meeting with Harry, it doesn't mean he'll get a "warm reception".
"The King has always kept the door open to Harry, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he would invariably get a warm reception," he explained.
He added: "It will take its time. But clearly the situation has changed in recent weeks beyond all expectations. I don't think it would be too difficult, it depends how you define reconcile. I think there's a long way to go before Harry is bringing over Meghan and the children."
Fitzwilliams believes Meghan Markle is "toxic" and that "trust" needs to be built before King Charles would consider an in-person meeting with her.
He said: "Meghan is toxic. I'm not saying the Sussexes would launch any attacks to the Royal Family at this sort of time. But what is very, very clear is that if they want to build trust, they have a long way to go.
