King Charles' packed schedule has dashed hopes of a meeting with his son, Prince Harry, this week. But the Duke's five-word response hints at ongoing optimism.
Prince Harry arrived in the UK earlier on Tuesday and was seen fulfilling duties for the Invictus Games. The celebration marking a decade of the project will be held in St Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday.
Last week, insider reports suggested that King Charles was eager to meet his son, provided his calendar permitted it. However, Harrys team have since confirmed that the meeting wont occur.
His spokesperson stated: "It, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty's full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father's diary of commitments and various other priorities."
Despite the setback, there's a glimmer of hope from Harry. The latter part of the statement indicated that the duke "hopes to see him [Charles] soon," suggesting he's still keen on reconnecting with his father, reports the Mirror.
The last occasion that the two were together followed Charles' cancer diagnosis announcement. Harry promptly returned to his homeland to visit his father.
He saw his dad for barely half an hour before Charles headed back to Sandringham for some rest, having commenced outpatient treatment for his illness.
Charles has recently been given the all-clear by his medical team to resume some public duties, following a period of working behind closed doors on state affairs - a situation that his nephew Peter Phillips noted left the King "frustrated".
Although Charles's schedule will "remain subject to doctors' advice" and he isn't expected to be fully operational over the summer, his doctors are "sufficiently pleased" with his recovery to allow him to return to
