Queen Camilla's official title has quietly changed from Queen Consort to just Queen, and it seems no one noticed.
The term "consort" means "wife of the monarch" but it has now been dropped from her title as if it was never there. Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie, hosts of the popular podcast Royally Obsessed, chatted about this major change in their latest episode.
Fiorito said about Camilla: "It's really been a progression, because it went from Princess Consort, which is what I think is what they said she'd originally be called, to Queen Consort, and finally, for ease of use, for ease of speech, for media, just Queen now." Bowie added: "It's shocking, how quickly, we kind of all had to get in line behind this. "But, I think with Queen Elizabeth giving her blessing, this was the only way this would've really gotten through." While "Queen Consort" might sound a bit clunky and awkward, Rachel thinks the title change means more than that.
She said: "I think it had so much meaning to Charles at the time, in particular, as well as Camilla. It had been such a long game and they had been through so much." Whether it's Queen or Queen Consort, Rachel praises Camilla her for stepping up while King Charles is unwell.

Ever since King Charles' accession in September 2022, Queen Camilla has truly stepped up to plate and seen a huge rise in her personal popularity. One key way the Queen has altered her position and moved the Royal Family closer into the 21st Century is her decision not to follow one key tradition which has been beloved by Queens and other senior royal ladies for centuries. The fact that Camilla was to have no Ladies-in-Waiting was an interesting topic at the time of the accession as Queen Elizabeth's group of Ladies-in-Waiting were so crucial to her day-to-day life that they were often referred to as her 'Head Girls' and had been handpicked from respectable aristocratic families to serve the monarch for their whole lives.
