Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank have announced the name and date of birth of their second child. The couple, who are also proud parents to two-year-old son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, shared the news that they had welcomed a little boy in a statement on Instagram. The message read: "Jack and I wanted to share the news that we had our little boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank on 30th May 2023 at 8.49 weighing 7.1lbs.
"He is named after his great great great Grandfather, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald. Augie is loving being a big brother already." While royal fans have professed their love of the choice of name for the 13th in line to the throne, there are several family links and historical associations which keep a key York family tradition afloat.
As the Princess points out herself, both Jack Brooksbank's late father George and Sarah, Duchess of York's father, Major Ronald Ferguson, are both honoured - but there is another royal tie to Ernest's name. Sarah, Duchess of York has a well-documented fascination in the life of Queen Victoria and even served as a producer on the 2009 film 'Young Victoria'.
Her interest runs so deep, in fact, that she named her two daughters after her family. Princess Beatrice was the name of the Queen’s youngest daughter with Prince Albert and all three of Princess Eugenie’s names (Eugenie Victoria Helena) follow the same trend.
Eugenie was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria (she later became Queen Eugenie of Spain) and Helena was another of the Queen’s daughters. The princess carried on this trend when her son, August, was born in 2021.The name August was one of the names of Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert. He was christened as Franz Albert August Karl
