Jessie J, who recently opened up about enduring a difficult birth, and her pro Basketballer boyfriend Chanan Safir Coleman have finally revealed the name of their one month old son. Chanan took to his Instagram account to share an adorable tribute to their little boy, who the couple welcomed on 19 May.
“Ben Shelli I already love doing life with you. Your greatness has absolutely NO limitations, and until the end of my days I’ll always protect you, teach you right from wrong, guide you when needed/asked, help you with your homework and find someone who can teach you how to spell,” the pro athlete wrote on social media.
The name Ben is of Hebrew origin, which could be a nod to dad Chanan, who is Danish and Israeli, and literally means “son of my right hand.” The name is pretty popular in the UK - although it’s fallen down the charts over the last ten years - and now ranks as the 348th most popular boys’ name. In Israel, it’s significantly more popular and ranks at number 48.
Shelli, meanwhile, is of Old English origin and means “sloped meadow.” It’s usually used as a girls’ name, but Jessie is known for breaking the rules and making unconventional choices, so it’s probably no surprise she’s opted for an unusual choice. The name itself isn’t common enough to be among the most used names in the UK, but its’ more popular counterpart, Shelly, ranks at just under 5,000th most popular for baby girls.
