Pharmacist shares simple way of eating that can help to cut risk of arthritis

It's estimated that around 10 million people in the UK are living with arthritis, which is a very common condition that causes pain and inflammation in joints.
The severity of the condition can differ depending on the person, but in certain cases, it can make day-to-day tasks very difficult and affect someone's ability to move around easily.
At the moment, there's no cure for arthritis, so the focus is on trying to reduce your risks of developing it as you get older. One diet expert recently spoke to the Express to lift the lid on how your meals can effect the level of inflammation in your body, and how this contributes to arthritis.
Pharmacist Mark Burdon from topical joint and muscle pain specialists Deep Relief said: “Diet has an impact on arthritic pain through an effect on inflammation.”
Eating a Mediterranean diet is the best way to help prevent inflammation, according to the pro. He explained: “An anti-inflammatory diet reduces inflammatory markers in the blood and can reduce pain.
“Adherence to a Mediterranean diet has been shown to be linked with reduced inflammation through the same mechanism. A healthy anti-inflammatory diet also contributes to the ability to maintain a healthy weight.
“Too much fatty tissue especially around the stomach releases inflammatory mediators causing inflammation so it’s important to maintain weight in the healthy range.”
The popular Mediterranean diet is packed full of healthy fats, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds. Many studies have hailed its benefits, particularly when it comes to tackling heart disease and high blood pressure.
Mark explained: “Anti-inflammatory foods for arthritic and joint pain include colourful vegetable and fruits, live yoghurt and other
