EXCLUSIVE: As the horses near the starting gate for Saturday’s running of the Kentucky Derby, Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions has lined up twin projects about Rich Strike, the upset winner of last year’s race.
Omaha is teaming with Amazon Prime Video to produce both a documentary and a scripted film based on the improbable win by the 80-to-1 longshot. The projects center on trainer Eric Reed, who overcame tragedy to engineer one of the biggest stunners in the nearly 150-year history of the Derby.
The scripted feature is a first for Omaha, which Manning launched after retiring from the NFL in 2016. Earlier this week, Deadline was the first to report on the company’s first foray into scripted comedy at NBC. Peter Chernin-backed non-scripted specialist Words + Pictures is also a producer of the documentary project.
“Last year’s Derby was a day I’ll never forget, it was something beyond my wildest dreams,” Reed said. “I am so excited that Peyton and Omaha Productions will help me share this story with the world. I hope we can show people how amazing things can happen to all of us, if we just believe in the power of hope, hard work, and a little bit of luck.”
Reed’s story lent itself to a narrative telling even before last year’s breakthrough. He followed his father, Herbert, into the family business and eventually worked with several dozen horses in a Kentucky-based stable about an hour’s drive from Churchill Downs. In 2016, tragedy struck in the form of a lightning strike, which caused a fire that burned down Reed’s barn in the middle of the night, killing 23 horses. Although Reed was devastated, the small-town community and his family rallied to help him rebuild the barn and continue his training. In 2021, he bought

After months of hibernating under leggings and thick deniers, you wouldn’t be alone in feeling a little uncertain about unveiling your legs to the world. Winter is notorious for sapping the skin, leaving it looking dull and a bit meh. “I’d say most people notice dryness, lack of tone and general lacklustre to the skin,” says Kate Shapland, founder of Legology. The key to getting your legs looking terrific is to address them with the same care that you give to your face.
Much has been made of King Charles' plans to downsize the number of royal homes currently in use, whether it is the Duke and Duchess of Sussex being evicted from Frogmore Cottage or the ongoing question of The Duke of York's residence at Royal Lodge. Following reports that Prince Andrew is continuing to resist his elder brother's attempts to force him out of the 30-room home, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has spoken to OK! about the plan and has said it is time for Prince Andrew to adjust to his reduced position in the royal fold. Jennie's comments come after ongoing reports that senior royal officials hope Royal Lodge will be vacated by Andrew so that it can become the home of The Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Firebrand,” a period drama about Katherine Parr, the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII, has sold out internationally ahead of its world premiere on Sunday. Sources tell Variety that the film has sold into STXInternational for the U.K. and to Sony Pictures for most other overseas markets. FilmNation has sold remaining international markets to independent international distributors. In the U.K., Variety understands that Prime Video is in the process of buying the film from STX. The North Road Company, the content studio founded by Peter Chernin, has acquired an unspecified minority stake in Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions. The deal includes a multi-year agreement for development, production, and sale of unscripted and scripted content.
Cynthia Littleton Business Editor Peter Chernin’s North Road Co. has taken a minority stake in Omaha Prods., the busy production banner headed by NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. The deal brings an influx of capital to Omaha and it allows the company to tap into the production and distribution infrastructure that Chernin is building through North Road, which launched last year with backing from private equity giants Providence Equity and Apollo Global Management. North Road is in assembling a roster of content banners with the goal of creating a strong independent source of TV and film titles for buyers, particularly those outside the U.S. Omaha is already co-producing projects with North Road-affiliated Words + Pictures, which is headed by former ESPN programming executive Connor Schell. Omaha made a splash starting with the 2021 football season with the launch of its “ManningCast” alternative telecast of “Monday Night Football” featuring Manning and his brother Eli Manning, a fellow retired NFL quarterback, commenting on the game in real time with guests for ESPN 2.
