Peter Andre has recalled the awkward moment that he asked now wife Emily MacDonagh's dad for his blessing to date her when she was just 22 years old. Peter, 50, is 16-years older than NHS doctor Emily, and insisted that he asked her dad for his permission to date her because he wanted to do “the right thing”. Peter has previously revealed that he had met Emily after her dad - urologist Ruaraidh MacDonagh - had performed a risky surgery on his kidney stones.
But now, for the first time, Peter has shared how the closeness of Emily’s relaxed family was the catalyst that changed their relationship from friendship to love. Speaking on the Off Air podcast, Peter explained to host Jane and Fi that he had been suffering from really bad kidney stones and had been sent from hospital to hospital in a bid to try and get them sorted out. But each hospital had sent him on somewhere else as the kidney stones were too dangerous to operate on.
At the third hospital, Emily's father was on call and came in to perform the risky operation on the dad-of-four. The singer explained that after he woke from the operation he could see a 'big bright white light shining down' and Emilly's father was stood in front of it, leading Peter to the assumption that it was Jesus. The mysterious girl singer than explained that: “We became friends and I met the family, and for two years we were all friends - Emily’s family and my family.
I think it was two years later we were all in Zanzibar. I’d gone on holiday with them because they work with the health care system out there." He explained that Emily's family was very close and would all walk along together holding hands, which he thought was 'such a lovely thing'. Peter than explained that on this occasion,
