The latest figures from the Scottish Government show there are estimated to be around 850,000 people with hearing loss in Scotland and of those, 70 per cent are over 70. It is projected that figures could double over the next 20 years, with a delay of up to 10 years before people address their hearing loss.

Some 2.9m people claiming the New State Pension are now receiving regular payments of up to £203.85 each week, and as the contributory benefit is usually paid every four weeks, this amounts to £815.40 per pay period.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) estimates that 850,000 pensioner households may be entitled to an average annual income boost of around £3,500, but do not claim it as they wrongly believe that because they have savings or own their own home they would not be eligible for Pension Credit.

The Scottish Government has announced that third sector organisations are to be paid a fee for helping provide supporting information for people applying for Child Disability Payment or Adult Disability Payment. The £33.50 fee will be paid when they are asked by Social Security Scotland to complete a supporting information request form.
