The late Paul O'Grady is about to be seen in his final ever series of For the Love of Dogs - and in his last chat about the ITV show, he pays a poignant tribute to the "privilege" of working with the residents of Battersea Dogs' Home. News of Paul's death on 28 March came as a shock, with his 11th series of passion project Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs already completed and ready to air. Asked about the new series, he had said: "It's always such a joy to be back at Battersea. It really is my second home and I'm part of the furniture now. "There are some smashing dogs in the new series, they really are lovely.

Paul, who was a proud dog owner himself, added: "When we first made this programme, I certainly didn't expect to stay this long but here I am, 12 years later. "It's such a simple little show really.

He described some of the dogs that viewers will see this time and admitted that he never got accustomed to seeing dogs who had been badly treated before arriving at Battersea. "When a dog comes in and has been badly neglected or abused, it's still just as shocking," he said. Big-hearted Paul's patience with dogs was endless and he spoke about gaining the trust of a rescue
