Alliance of Women Film Journalists have announced the winners of the annual AWFJ EDA awards. “Barbie” took home multiple awards in the “Best Of” category, including Best Director for Greta Gerwig, Original Screenplay for Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling, and the film’s casting directors Lucy Brava and Allison Jones also took home an award.

In one of the earliest announcements in recent memory, the Cannes Film Festival announced early Thursday morning Paris time the president of the jury for 2024. And, in something of a surprise, this year’s president is Greta Gerwig, a soon-to-be multiple Oscar nominee for the 2023 blockbuster “Barbie.” Gerwig is the first woman to lead the jury since Cate Blanchett in 2018 and the second American this decade after Spike Lee presided over the first post-pandemic jury in 2021.

Anne Hathaway has shared her support for Margot Robbie‘s and Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie movie.Before Robbie’s and Gerwig’s take on Barbie, Hathaway was in 2017 attached to star in a Barbie movie with Australian filmmaker Alethea Jones attached to direct. Barbie has topped a list of the top-trending Google searches across the year in movies.Greta Gerwig’s film, which is the highest-grossing movie of the year, came out on top of Google’s year-in-review 2023 lists for movie search data in the US and globally.The lists, released on Monday (December 11), track queries that had the highest spikes in traffic over a sustained period this year as compared with 2022.Unsurprisingly, due to the Barbenheimer phenomena, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer placed in second across both lists.
