One person has died and around 30 others are seriously injured following a horror train accident in the Netherlands. The front carriages derailed in the early hours of this morning and at least one carriage was sent flying into a field next to the tracks.
The incident happened close to the village of Voorschoten near The Hague at around 3.25am local time. Many windows on the train were smashed and it's not clear if this happened as a result of the incident or if passengers broke them while trying to escape, the Mirror reports.
Dutch Radio were told by a local fire department that 19 victims had been taken to hospital while others were being attended to at the scene. According to the Netherlands National News Agency (ANP), the front carriage of the train between Leiden City and The Hague came off the tracks and ended up in a field after the terrifying accident.
Images from the scene showed a front carriage derailed and ploughing into a field, while a second derailed carriage landed on its side. A third carriage managed to remain upright while a fourth one burst into flames.
Voorschoten Mayor Nadine Stemerdink said in a statement: "This is an incredibly tragic accident. I sympathise with the victims. Unfortunately, there is also a fatality to mourn. My thoughts go out to all the family and friends of those involved."
John Voppen, CEO of the rail network company Pro Rail, called the accident 'a black day' for Dutch railways and said the cause of the terrible accident was being investigated.
An unidentified witness told the local Omroep West television news: “We heard a loud bang and suddenly the lights went out. We couldn’t initially get out of the train because there was no electricity.”

Rancid have announced plans to release new album ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ this summer.The US punk-rock band’s 10th studio LP will come out on June 2 via Epitaph Records and is their first since 2017’s ‘Trouble Maker’.As a first taster, the band have shared the title track from their forthcoming album, the video for which you can view below.The record, which will feature 16 tracks, coincides with their forthcoming UK and European tour which kicks off in Italy at Slam Dunk on the same day the album is released.The tour was set to call at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on June 20, but it has now been upgraded to the OVO Arena Wembley on the same date.The band will also play a second gig at the O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester the following night (June 21).

The format created by Antwerp-based production company Geronimo and distributed globally by Be-Entertainment mixes fantasy and reality within a road trip setting. In “Destination X” 10 contestants board a Destination X Bus with blacked-out blinds. Throughout the trip reality is regularly tweaked to mislead the contestants as well as the viewers at home. At the end of each episode, the contestant who places their X on a map furthest away from the bus’s actual location has to leave the game and loses their shot at winning a cash prize.
Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Abacus Media Rights has pre-sold a documentary feature with the working title “We Need to Talk About Kanye” to several territories. The film, which was ordered by the BBC in February, explores the rollercoaster life and career of Kanye West, A.K.A. Ye. Its producer Jeremy Lee spoke to Variety, ahead of MipTV, the TV market and conference, which kicks off Monday in Cannes. Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent French actor-director Maiwenn, whose latest film “Jeanne du Barry” starring Johnny Depp is set to open the Cannes Film Festival, is being sued by Edwy Plenel, the editor-in-chief of Mediapart magazine for allegedly attacking him at a restaurant. A police complaint was filed on March 7 by Plenel, accusing Maiween of aggression. Variety confirmed the filing with the Paris prosecutor’s office following local news reports. In the complaint, Plenel alleges that he was assaulted by Maiwenn in late February while eating at a restaurant in the posh seventh arrondissement of Paris. Maiwenn, who was sitting by herself at a nearby table, allegedly came to his table and grabbed him by the hair before spitting in his face without saying a word, then stormed out of the venue, leaving Plenel “traumatized by the incident,” according to the news outlet AFP, which quoted the police complaint.
