As the countdown to King Charles' Coronation continues, a number of adaptations have already been revealed with several more expected in the coming weeks and months. The monarch's coronation will be held on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey and will see His Majesty crowned alongside The Queen Consort.
While the public already know that there will be around 6,000 fewer guests and that the ceremony will be considerably shorter than the late Queen's in 1953, there is one change that could affect The Princess of Wales and The Duchess of Sussex. It has been questioned whether the dress code for female attendees could be changed to reflect the less formal nature of the event.
As a result, we could see guests wear hats and day dresses rather than the glittering gowns, tiaras and coronets seen at the last Coronation. A royal jewellery blogger has claimed that a daytime formal dress code could be established for the historic event on May 6, in which case hats would take the place of tiaras, reports The Express.
"I'm certainly hoping we'll see Coronation tiaras, but it's possible that Charles is following the example of some of his European counterparts, like the King of the Netherlands, and setting a daytime formal dress code for the event," Lauren Kiehna told PEOPLE. "That would mean that we could still see some grand jewels, like necklaces, brooches and earrings but no tiaras." While senior female royals such as The Princess of Wales, The Duchess of Edinburgh and The Princess Royal could wear hats during the service, The Queen Consort will, of course, not follow suit and will be crowned with Queen Mary’s Crown.
