‘Night Court’ Renewed For Season 2 At NBC

Hallmark Channel's has set a season 10 premiere date has officially been renewed for season 11, ET can exclusively reveal. The network's longest-running scripted series will kick off its 12-episode 10th season, which will include the milestone 100th episode, on Sunday, July 30 at 9 p.m.

But NBCUniversal is hoping the retooled comedy will lead Madison Avenue into the future. When the original program launched, built around star Harry Anderson as a non-traditional metropolitan judge, NBC sold ads against the debut broadcast of each episode as well as a rerun later in the season. Now, says Mark Marshall, the executive recently given wider oversight over NBCUniversal’s national ad sales, the company is selling broad-reach ads attached to the linear debut of each episode as well as targeted advertising that appears adjacent to the series when it streams on Peacock.

J. Kim Murphy Netflix is in for more “Outer Banks.” The streamer has renewed the adventure series for a fourth season, five days ahead of the debut of Season 3 on Feb. 23. The news was announced Saturday evening at Poguelandia, the “Outer Banks” fan event in Huntington Beach, Calif. Cast members Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant, Rudy Pankow, Austin North and Drew Starkey surprised the crowd with the renewal announcement. Attendees were also indulged with a nine-minute preview of Season 3. “Seeing Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular,” series co-creators, executive producers and showrunners Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke said in a joint statement. “The Pogues are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime and we now get to map out more twists and turns as the joyride continues into Season 4 of ‘Outer Banks.’ Thank you to Netflix, our cast and the amazing fans who helped to make this happen.”

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Weigel Broadcasting Co. is flipping its digital broadcast network Decades into the sitcom-centric Catchy Comedy on March 27, Variety has learned exclusively. The over-the-air network will focus on a library of classic comedies, with an emphasis on key female stars including the signature shows from Lucille Ball, Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett. But also central to the Catchy Comedy lineup are key series from Norman Lear, as well as some of the most lauded sitcoms of all time – including the original “Night Court,” which is back in the spotlight thanks to the success of the revival series on NBC. Unlike Decades, which wasn’t measured by ratings, Catchy Comedy will be Nielsen-rated. “That takes it into a different sphere, in terms of advertiser availability and access,” said Neal Sabin, vice-chairman of Weigel Broadcasting Co. “There are many advertisers that won’t look at these networks unless they’re rated and we’re pretty confident that we have something here that will rate well.”
