Millions of households across the country will receive a significant discount on their energy bills in the coming months.
The Warm Home Discount scheme has now been launched for 2023 and will see up to £150 get taken off energy bills for those found to qualify for the scheme. Both pensioners and low-income households will receive the one-off discount which will be applied throughout the winter period until March 2024.
More than three million households will get told they qualify for the Warm Home Discount from today, the government said. Those who qualify in England and Wales will receive a letter explaining the discount and instructions on what they need to do next.

The discount will be applied regardless of how you pay for your electricity, however, it may vary depending on what type of meter you have. Traditional prepayment meter customers will receive a top-up voucher which they can cash in at their local top-up point while smart prepayment meter customers will see the discount applied automatically to their account.
While the discount is wholly for electricity bills, you may be able to get the discount for your gas, however, you need to contact your supplier in this case as not all of them will do this.
In order to be eligible for the discount, either you or your partner need to be claiming Pension Credit on August 13 of this year or be receiving a qualifying low-income benefit while having high energy costs.

Charities are stepping up calls for the UK Government to introduce a ‘Help to Repay’ scheme on energy bills as research showed one in four households with fuel debts are unable to clear arrears.
